Camping Le Dauphin is situated in the middle of the ancient Latin province of Saintonge, which is the ideal departure point for visiting the coast on the one hand and the backcountry on the other.

Sightseeing near the campsite (within 25 km)

Even if you prefer not to spend much time visiting the region around Camping Le Dauphin, there are several activities that can be done during a short half-day trip, less than 25 kilometres away from the campsite:
  • The town of Royan, main seaside resort of Charente Maritime. It was recently listed as a City of Art and History thanks to its unusual 1950s architecture; it is known for its 5 "Conches" (sandy beaches between two cliffs), for the Notre Dame Church but also for the shops and restaurants of the Front de Mer and for its Marina. 
  • La Palmyre Zoo, 3rd largest animal park in Europe, with its 18 hectares of land, more than 4 km of visit routes, and more than 1600 animals of 110 different species. Shows of sea lions and parrots are performed several times a day in high season. 
  • The town of Meschers sur Gironde, located only 6 km from the campsite, is best known for its ancient caves carved into the limestone cliff. 
  • The beautiful village of Talmont sur Gironde, listed as "Most Beautiful Villages of France", is located on a promontory which overhangs the Estuary of the Gironde River. Enjoy the Romanesque Church of Sainte Radegonde as well as its alleys decorated with hollyhocks and its typical shops.
  • The fishermen's village of Mornac sur Seudre, located only 20 minutes away from the campsite. It is a pretty oyster port in the heart of the salt marsh of La Seudre.
  • The Archeological site of Fâ, located in Barzan. Its temple of Gallo-Roman origin is probably the most important archaeological site of the region.
  • The Gironde Estuary Tourist Route, with several panoramic routes to discover the coast, marshes and castles of our beautiful region.

One-Day-Trip Suggestions (within 50 km)

On the contrary, if you want to take some more time for sightseeing, here are some one-day-trip suggestions (less than 50 kilometres from the campsite) : Rochefort and its ancient rope factory, Oléron and Re Islands, and La Rochelle with its famous aquarium.

Cruises

You also have the possibility of enjoying a cruise on the estuary of Gironde river. Several cruise companies in Saint Georges and Royan offer a range of possibilities for all tastes : complete trips along the Estuary, lighthouses sightseeings (7 lighthouses, included the Cordouan one, which is the oldest operating in France), the Boyard Fort or the Aix Isle.

And for your children, we suggest some educational and recreational activities, such as the Parc de l'Estuaire, Planet Exotica, Le Château des Enigmes, the Paléosite, the Luna Park in La Palmyre .
